if you guys wanna hear my ass mic just follow this link. the song has a vox/guitar intro so let it play for 30-40 seconds, then the drums will kick in.

The first time I learned about this mic setup, I was the drummer, and the guy setting up the mic said, "Just so you know, this mic is pointed at your balls."
I think saying that to the drummer is a pretty key factor in getting the proper sound out of the crotch mic.

Maybe less interesting from an anatomical perspective, but you can get a similar effect from a low front or rear kit mic .... although the crotch has a definite appeal.

Actually yes, and to add humor points it's been attributed to that Albini guy. Put a mic on a short stand right behind the drum stool, run it through the usual crappy compressor.
Which way do you point the mic when using this classy technique?
Drummers might not be the smartest, but we are probably the strongest!
