Apogee One?
Apogee One?
Has anyone tried this piece out? I'm in the market for a USB interface and had pretty much decided to wait on a cheap Presonus Audiobox, but the One has me intrigued. The Duet won't work for me because I have one of the Macbooks w/ No FW (ugh...but I got a deal on it). The pull of the Apogee quality is tugging at me, but I'm wondering how this single channel deally will work or if I'll feel constrained by not being able to record in stereo. I'm mostly wanting to use the piece for offsite recording and to talk the laptop upstairs to the piano. I ain't moving the piano to the basement.
Thoughts?
Is it too early for anyone to have experience with it? The video on the site sounds good from what I can tell, even the built-in mic.

Only 44 and 48? in 2009?
I hate artificial market segmentation like that.
Similar to some computer manufacturers like AMD that sold the same chip under multiple prices/model numbers.
Hey here's a professional apogee recording box for less than $500, of course it only records at low sample rates one channel at a time. And we are so cool we can ignore the entire PC side of the market.
(Ok I am just bitter because they dont have windows drivers for any of their boxes)

Well, I only record in 44.1 (stop it), so that's not a problem, but the one channel is giving me pause. i can get 2 channels from presonus for around $100. The apogee name and perceived is attractive.ThePitz wrote:Mmm... And it looks like it's 44.1 or 48 sample rate only.
I never realized that.

I know, right? Anyone who scoffs at those numbers either has hit a ceiling of excellent sounding gear, or they are mildly delusional.e.maynard wrote:That thing looks dead in the water.
I'm a 24/44.1 kat myself but still..... only one channel?
But on the other hand, anyone who buys this probably nice sounding entry level piece, will probably outgrow it within two months and go buy more Apogee stuff so they can rock multiple channels. Good thinking Apogee $$$.

I think it's brilliant. On the road I travel with a Duet and and SM7 and haven't needed more than one channel. A built in mic is great for demoing too. If you only have one interface it may not be the best choice. It does depend on what you'll be recording and how far you want to take it. But someone who has used the Mini ME, Duet, and AD/DA16s extensively, I'm backing Apogee on this one.
