QUICK FRK question, should be easy, slightly urgent though..
A FRIEND'S GOING TO THE SUPPLIER TOMORROW, SO A FAST RESPONSES WOULD BE QUITE APPRECIATED...
My insulation supplier, SPI, has a similar product to FRK in stock called Lamtech 3035 PE and it's a glue-backed version. He can also order a glue-less kind.
1) Does the thickness added by the glue-layer matter? Even if I use the glue-backed material w/o melting it and use spray adhesive instead (maybe more convenient)?
2) Anyone out there used the spray adhesive? How easy is that? What adhesive did you use and how much does it cost?
I was thinking of buying the glue-backed kind (since in stock) and either installing it myself w/ spray adhesive, or taking my mineral wool back there for them to attach it via industrial strength heat (requires like 400 degress to activate the glue layer). Just wondering if any of these details matter much.

I am guessing a bit, but I bet it would be ok for bass trapping. Though you might want to see if they have any lab numbers on it just to be safe.

Glenn,
Apparently, Lamtech is the only maker of FRK / FSK (used to be Compaq made it.. not sure of spelling) at this point and they supply it to Owens Corning. So it's definitely the same material. As far as whether it's the exact same thickness, can't find any info but I'd guess they wouldn't go to the trouble to make multiple different versions of such a simple product. Who knows.
OC doesn't sell FRK w/o the fiberglass do they? That would answer the question cause we could find specs on the "OC" version.
Btw, the stuff is only $.12 w/ glue backing or $.08 w/o glue back. Price per SF, scrim only, no mineral wool included. It's an easy way to experiment, being so cheap. And then you can take it back to the supplier and have them apply it to your min. wool / fiberglass if needed (free).

Sure you can just buy the backing. Not sure where to get it from though.BusyBoxSt7 wrote:myfipie,
I was asking the opposite: whether OC sells the backing by itself (w/o the fiberglass).
