Anybody know these? What do you like them on?

A friend just turned me on to a pair...

I've had the pro 37r for a few years. I just got sick of them as x/y or ORTF overheads on drums. That's about all I've used them on. Now that I'm using LDC's glyn Johns style, I guess I'll be experimenting a bit more with them.

Fuck. That wasn't helpful.

Here's them in a live jam context as OH's on drums. Drum sound is the 37r pro's in x/y snare top and bottom and D112 and Subkick on kick. No tom mics.

Clips and all? Thanks!

When you say that you 'just got sick of them' was there something specific you found lacking, or was it just general gear lust for something new? Did you ever get a chance to use them on acoustic guitar?

I love them on acoustic guitar. And, they're quite useable on drum overheads and percussion stuff. I, personally, just got sick of SDCs in general. But, if I'm using a SDC, and it's not a 012 on a tom, then chances are it's a pro37r.

It's Albini approved, if that means anything to you...

I have a pair and I like them a lot. I use them on drum overheads in XY or spaced pair. I have used them XY for stereo acoustic guitar also and they worked great. Very good mics for the money.

Best hi-hat mic for the money. I had one for a short time, I paid $30 for it on eBay I think.
Still waiting for a Luna reunion

My wife got them for me for x-mas about 5 years ago, based on a recommendation from Larry Crane, of all people.

I thought they were 'fine' when used with tom mics, and the full setup, but as I migrated towards a more minimal approach they weren't yielding the full booming tom sound I wanted. I'm getting that a lot more with my Glyn Johns. I don't think you can chalk up my change to gear lust since I've replaced the 37's with MXL 2001's that cost a quarter as much and that I've had for almost as long. I used the 37's with acceptable (to me) results for many years.

Based on one of the posts in this thread, I'm going to try one under the snare, I think. I'm still not getting as "hi-fi" of a snare sound as I'd like.

I'm pretty sure that the only passable acoustic guitar sound that I ever got was with one of my 37's about a foot or two out. I've got a really boomy $99 acoustic (and zero acoustic chops) so it's really hard to get any sort of non-shitty sound, for me.

Edit: I should add that I really preferred the 37's in ORTF for overheads vs. x/y, but I switched to x/y when I recorded my band's live rehearsals (what you heard). I used x/y to minimize phase issues with the drums AND all the other stuff that was going on.

This is great. I was hoping they would be useful, and it sounds like they will be.

They say the thing can handle 141 db SPL, does anyone know how much SPL is coming off the bottom of a 6.5" deep Supraphonic when you whack the bajesus out of it? It seems like you could really fuck up an SDC with too much SPL.

Pro 37s RULE on acoustic guitar!!!!!!!

They are pretty good on electric guitars too, and OH, mandolin, percussion, piano. They are great little mics.
