See, I've been saying for years that people would find artistic uses for this tool.

The comments scare me, but the video is great. . .

Hmmm... Weird. With the way that dude liked to yell all the time I figured it more likely he would be fronting a metal or punk band. I also thought piano ballads were more of a Vince Offer thing.

Who knew.

Wow, I found that oddly touching. RIP, Billy!

So far, this is my favorite of this new "genre" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSgiXGELjbc

I like that, too. This stuff makes me not hate autotune anymore. Although that will change as soon as I step out of my apartment and the first car goes by. :x

I know there was a thread around here recently about auto-tune and its uses but I'm not sure this technique ever got addressed.

How the hell do they do that? Using MIDI mapping with auto-tune and manually making a melody line that's all fucked up?

I've watched these a bunch now, especially the Carl Sagan one, which is amazing.
I think this could blow up into a big new art form. I totally want to do one, I'm
already trying to think of an entertainer who's footage I could use...

Well, that's how a vocoder works, I think. Run the vocal through it, but nothing sounds unless a key is pressed. I've always assumed auto-tune uses a similar process.

wow that puts my auto tuned turkeys to shame.

if that dude made a dvd i would buy it, but i could only imagine the rights fiasco involved with trying to release this stuff commercially... but both of his videos put portray their figures positively so who knows.

regardless. it does make me hate auto tune a little less though, and actually be okay with watching a billy mays infomercial
the tape is rolling, the ones and zeros are... um... ones and zeroing.
