Wall of Sound/Shoegaze Guitars?

Post by hbornste » Sun Oct 11, 2009 6:59 pm

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if you could help me achieve the kind of wall of sound guitars found in the following tracks:

(4:24 in)
http://hypem.com/#/track/925312/Atlas+S ... uick+Canal

(3:47 in)
http://hypem.com/#/track/921518/Girls+- ... le+Ratrace

http://hypem.com/#/track/926123/Girls+-+Morning+Light

Thanks!

Fender guitar with single coil pickup. (Probably not a tele.)
+
Fuzz box (might want to have 2 or 3 to choose different tones)
+
Wah pedal used in a static position as a filter. (the first song you linked)
+
Delay pedal set to shortish delay, with the level of the effect on the lower side.
+
Reverb
+
Marshall amp

reverb or delay, shortish time, lots of repeats, in FRONT of whatever drive/fuzz pedal you see fit, play open chord, use vibrato.

I could be wrong but I think I'm hearing some kind of time-based modulation, I think flange, but it sounds to me like it's coming from a synth that's playing the same part, but it's definitely working with the guitar to make one sound.

Sounds like it could be a fender blender.
