Haven't watched it yet, but they have "Tom Dowd and the Language of Music" up on Pitchfork.tv this week.

truth. this blew my mind the first time i saw it.

this should be mandatory viewing for anyone in the audio world.

i really wonder where we would be these days if it weren't for folks like Tom Dowd And Les Paul and a handful of others.
the tape is rolling, the ones and zeros are... um... ones and zeroing.

Good reminder for those who haven't caught this yet. I've had my DVD for a few years now and watch it every few months.

To me, he's the *real* "Dr. Manhattan".

Watching this really made me want to try that two-quartets-facing-each-other-with-bidirectional-mics-inbetween technique. Or even direct-to-disk recording...mmmm... :D

This film is awesome. He seems like a super nice guy too!

2 performers on either side of figure 8 works great. Great for 2 bvox at the same time....

Great Take!

That's a great documentary. Not only will you get to see Tom Dowd's technical virtuosity, the movie brings you behind the scenes of Atlantic Records in it's heyday as well as painting a picture of Mr. Dowd's ability to produce and interact with all manner of artists and executives.

You'll also see a segment depicting his involvement with the Manhattan Project.

Highly recommended - I've seen it a number of times and haven't been bored at all.

watched it last night, great film. what an interesting guy. besides all the amazing studio stuff, that footage of the underwater bomb detonation was pretty spectacular.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I saw this at a screening in Nashville a few years ago. Great to see it again.

Watched it twice back, to back. It's so amazing how separated different geographical regions were when it came to technology. Nowadays we hear of new technology instantly, such a different era.
