Best use for a broken MXL 2001!

Post by Kevin Kitchel » Thu Nov 19, 2009 11:51 am

I have a broken MXL 2001 thats been kickin' around for a while, and I think I found the best use for it...as a tap handle for my new (homebrew) kegerator.

start your own art car. glue it to a K car. then go find 3,000 more.

by golly it DOES make a nice tap handle

*is jealous of kegerator*

I saw a pickup with a tap handle for a shifter the other day. Cute, but that must be murder after a while.

oh man.

I don't know if the capsule is OK in that mic, but I really like my Royer-modded MXL 2001. I'm sure it's just expectation bias or something, but I feel like that thing just has some great grabby grooviness to it. You throw out everything but the capsule and housing to make the new mic, and it's really not too difficult, although mine has a little bit of hum (which doesn't really get into recordings).

Or you could use it to drink beer with...

I'm all about reuse, but that mic spent some time underwater.
