Maybe it's a starved-plate chessboard and they do the LED trick and add one to make it looks like the tube is glowing? The board makes me think of my VTB-1 that has a blue LED inside it by the tube.

I'm pretty sure those tubes have been taken apart and fitted with LEDs.

This is just what I need to really "warm up" some tracks before going into my harsh, thin-sounding DAW. I hope guitar center carries them for around $150 so I can sound like a pro without breaking the bank.
