I've worked on some of the smaller format Mackie's and never really liked them. I've been working with a ZED14 for the past 6 months or so and love the smooth transparency I'm getting. It's not clinical or sterile, just smooth and accurate reproduction. Plus the pre's are so fantastically worth the money and very fast IMO, letting the true character of my mic's through with some of the greatest clarity I've heard from boards much much bigger costing gobs more $$$. Just my 2 cents.

I just simply record a band, and I've got a '91 Soundcraft Spirit Studio 24x8x2 that's a pretty incredible board with everything working perfect except the XLR jacks on tracks 1 and 19 you gotta angle right (you can work around it easily).

I do have a Mackie Onyx board, and if you have a good signal going through, you'll have a good signal going out.
