Portable Interface For A MacBook

Post by Spoonie » Sun Jan 17, 2010 7:09 am

Hi I was wondering if anybody could give me their opinions on a suitable interface to run on a laptop?

I am open to any suggestions at this point, thanks

track count?
USB or firewire?

I'd say apogee either duet (FW) or One (USB)

I have the availability to use both firewire or usb, i suppose though that firewire is the best choice?

I think I may just use it for small jobs, maybe 2-4 tracks but i wouldn't rule out anymore.

I tend to think firewire is better.

I'm happy with the presonus firebox... and it runs on bus power so you can run on batteries if you need to.
Everything louder than everything else.

For a 4 in unit the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra is kool.
I like the look of the Lexicon U42 as well, but I've never used one.

Both are USB 2.

Duet for two tracks. MOTU 828mk2 modified by Black Lion for more than two tracks. I own both.

Metric Halo is my next destination once my MOTU 828mk2 is no longer happy. It's been going since 2003, though. *knocks on wood, throws salt over shoulder*

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I will try to read up on them soon but I checked the metric halo and sadly don't think i can warrant that kinda money yet.

I don't suppose I need to ask, but hey while I'm here, what do you think of Protools mbox system?

Unless you need to run PT, you can do better Bang for Buck wise with many other choices.
