What do you guys think of the Samson Q Kick? it's been discontinued but I could grab one off the bay.

Either a Sennheiser 421 or EV RE20 are both very versatile mics that sound great on bass drum and bass guitar, among other things.

The RE20 exhibits pretty much zero proximity effect, which I think is rad. You can get it stupid close to speakers or drums, thus minimizing bleed, without it getting all wooly.

421 sounds awesome, but I don't like to sneak it in as close.
