Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Was it a high-end ice axe or just a pro-sumer model?

And is there really a noticeable difference?

And can that difference be proven mathematically?

Would they null, or not null?

I thought to myself, "How does the "I don't get summing boxes" thread get to four pages long. I gotta check this out".
Now I know.

Ya, I know! I just wanted some explanation as to what they do, where they go in the signal chain, and what it is they do. I had no idea I was creating a monster!

It sounds different. Better or not is opinion. But, if you disagree that it sounds "different", then you've either never really heard a high quality summing unit, or, you're the one who's deaf.

See... I think that people who write off analog summing as bullshit have probably never used a nice summing box, and slag it off because they cannot afford one.

Now, to be fair, I don't really believe what I just wrote. I'm sure that plenty of people who can afford summing boxes choose against them because it's not a fit for their workflow. The reason that I wrote it is to highlight how insulting it can be when people make nonsense assumptions about you based on your opinions.

Just get some analog in your chain somewhere...summing box, mixer, outboard comps, eqs verbs....SOMETHING.

If you can't bring outboard gear into your mix you're playing with a toy.

If you don't feel like outboard analog gear makes your mix better you must be playing with a serious machine(like a HD system) or you just don't care for the sound of analog....or maybe you just don't care?(jingles?techno?)

People who say digital sounds just as good are talking about some real serious systems and even then they know deep down it would be even better if they were using a "real serious 2" tape machine"

But PT LE is not really in the same conversation.
I would shoot myself if I had to deal with latency,or lining up wave forms???

For some reason I had to throw this into an already too long of a thread??

Maybe for you....

My results have been very different from yours. I think if you have a certain amount of skill and taste excellent results can be had in the box on a Pro Tools LE rig.

Anytime I hear someone say things like "you HAVE to do it X way" I recoil. There's a lot of ways to skin cats. (and like a friend of mine says: the more times you run over a cat, the flatter it gets...)

It is difficult to create a hat that properly fits a Lama. It is reality bending if that hat is made from Alpaca wool. I rest my case.

Saito: Do you know what will happen to me if the [song] is not [mixed] on time?
Nicholson: I haven't the foggiest.
Saito: I'll have to kill myself. What would you do if you were me?
Nicholson: I suppose if I were you, I'd have to [not] kill myself. Cheers! (He drinks the glass of Scotch.)

Analog is way better than digital. for sure.
Actually, wait... I think digital workflow is better than analog.
