so mine is in need of a new ribbon and has been sitting on the shelf sometime because of it.

i'm getting enak to re-ribbon the thing but i'm kinda going back and forth on keeping it stock vs. getting the mod that they offer (77-dx, i think).

i used to use this on guitars all the time and liked it stock. how does the transformer mod effect the performance of this mic?

Clarence should be able to give you a feel for what the difference is.

Personally, I would use the stock transformer.

Agreed. Its a really cool mic that you can count on. Why turn it into a variable?

Amen.

I love the 77 and I love the 500. If I owned either one, I wouldn't sell it to buy the other. They're both really different mics and both extremely useful.

+1...

I have M500s with the 77 mod, stock old M500s, and quite a few of the limited edition M500s, and they are all wonderful microphones...

What is Beyer charging to re-ribbon a mic these days??

It was getting prohibitive 10 or so years ago, which drove me to try the mod.
But maybe things have evened out??

Beyer no longer services the M500( I have been reribboning them lately because of this ), they only do the M130,M160,M260 mics. (I just had this conversation with their service department)

enac is right down the road from me.
