You can always take a vocal track and run it through auto-tune.

Just find a basic patch with a clean sine wave, adjust your ADSR to taste, portamento, monophonic, and apply delay/reverb/tremolo for effect...

I have no idea what a Tannerin is, but I did recently have a Tanner's Jack beer. It's brewed by the makers of 'Old Speckled Hen'. The idea with the Tanner's Jack is it's meant to mimic the style of beer that used to be sipped from leather pouches. The flavor implies all that. OMG what a one-time only novelty beer!

The smell was quite 'leathery' too.

A Tannerin is what you hear on the Beach Boys Good Vibrations. Similar to a Theremin, but played differently.

I fondly remember the days when all studio owners knew what a tannerin was.

A real theremin does not produce a sine wave. In theory it should, but in practice true theremins produce fairly pronounced harmonics.
The sound of a theremin is actually the beating caused by the interference of two much higher frequency oscillators. Living in the same box together, these two oscillators don't like to be out of tune with each other. They yearn to resonate together, and pull at each other as they slip in and out of phase. The closer they get (i.e. the lower you play) the harder they pull, until nothing can keep them apart, they fall in step with each other, and the theremin stops producing sound.
This means that the sound is richest at the low end of the theremin's range, almost saw-like, becoming purer as the pitch rises. I think if you took a sawtooth wave and filtered it, and played with the keyfollow, so that it was filtering all the overtones at high pitch, but letting some through at the lower end, you might get pretty close. And of course, use some sort of continuous controller, or a lot of portamento and vibrato, to play it.
