Clarification:

"Online seller" = company that sells computers online. (e.g., Amazon, although they sell a lot of other stuff too). Who's cheap? Who's trustworthy? (What i was trying to ask originally)

Good or bad comments on brands are okay, if you back 'em up with reasons from your own experience. "This sucks, that sucks" is just a big circle jerk, and a waste of everybody's time.

Make sense?

I've always gotten good deals and good treatment from Tiger Direct. A friend at the station uses Newegg, and he's been satisfied.

+1 on New Egg. I've used them a lot over the last several years and their prices and customer service have been excellent.

you left out some the details like what kind of interface you use, do you need lots of USB, 1394 (firewire), PC-card slots, etc. Also, are you planning to record to the internal disk or use external disks? Are you running lots of plugins or soft-synths?

A lot of the laptops come from the same Asian manufacturers these days (and thus are fairly similar inside) so I'd look at:

1. features you need (like faster disks, more RAM, ports)
2. warranty (for example, Dell, HP, Lenovo usually have 1-3yr warranties)
3. price

I just looked at Dell's website and you can get an Inspiron 15 (1545) with a dual-core cpu, 4GB RAM and a 320GB hard disk for $499. The weak points would probably be the 5400rpm hard disk and maybe the 1yr warranty. also doesn't look like it has firewire. it does have an express card slot.

so that's just an example - do some comparison and get what you need.

I didn't say all that 'cause that's not the question. Looking for an online SELLER (store) not a laptop recommendation. Thanks for the thoughts, though.
