it's actually in the body of the posts that account makes.

so, deliberate each time.

I love these mics. Joel lent me one years ago and I immediately ran out and found one. They are great on all mentioned applications and fantastic as room mics on drums as well. They naturally control cymbal to drum ratio and they react to compression and overcompression extremely well. I would suggest doing some research on the transformers used with this mic before buying one as there seems to be a lot of opinions.

ha .... thankyou for the kind introduction.

There is an outside engineer at the studio this week so it seemed like a perfect time to stay in pajamas with a big cup of coffee and see what this internet thing is all about...

We have a couple of CMV 563s. They're a great way to get into the Neumann tube mic world without the u47/u67 price tags.

While they are similar the the um57 that i own, they have a bigger low end, thicker lo-mids and a different presence. They get used as vocals much of the time, sound great on acoustic guitar, piano, acoustic bass, and are beefy room mics. Also ABed one to our new U67 addition...i can post clips of John playing drums with a selection of Neumann's in front of the kit if you're interested.

yeah, we should put those clips online. pretty interesting. some weak drumming.

we gotta do that shoot out between the two power supplies, too!

That's what this place needs more of: Power supply shoot outs

I usually turn to Gearslutz for my cable shootouts but that could happen here also.

it's pretty slutty... but my CMV has an original TOOB power supply, and Aaron's has a modern one, and we swear the same mic sounds different depending on the power supply used.

Mine both have modern power supplies and there's definitely a difference between the two that I've got. One's brighter than the other, but so is one of my mics. I generally prefer the combination of brighter mic and brighter PSU, but in the instances where I'm using both of my CMVs in a stereo configuration, I can put the brighter mic with the darker power suppliy and things even out considerably.

The power supply makes a huge difference. Recapping the power supply can get you SICK improvements in overall S/N and frequency response of a mic like the CMV563. Any of the Neumann Tube mics, actually.
