haha.. I can't watch a movie or show without naming every single damn mic/gear that shows up on screen..

I do the same thing with mics, everyone tries to drag out an old model that no one has seen, often addressing it wrong. Seeing a rack of Ampex pres is a bit odd I thought.

One of my favorites is how in a lot of movies and TV when they need a bank of "technology" it is often just salvaged audio gear. You see a lot of 30 year old power amps. Huge gain knobs, maybe a VU meter, but apparently impressive enough looking to most people.

I've seen spaceships and submarines piloted and maintained with vintage audio gear.

I love all the fake gear they came up with for the studio shots in Walk Hard. Totally overblown and completely period-correct looking.

If I recall correctly, the observation room in "Contact" starring Jodie Foster was full of ADAT XT's. It sort of killed the movie for me -- even before the plot did. :D
