Flight case needs new foam--- suggestions?

Post by pulse_divider » Thu Aug 26, 2010 10:37 am

I've got an old keyboard flightcase in which the old foam rotted and was removed.
Any good off the shelf suggestions for this?
I see there's a thread up right now about pop filter foam, but this seems like it would require something different as it would probably need to be more rigid.
Aside from knowing the dimensions and thickness, what other info do I need to know when calling around locally to ask about this? Is there an "R-value" style density coefficient I need to know?
I'm going to try an upholstery store, as suggested in the other thread. But it seems like I'd need to go somewhere else to find something suitable, so any suggestions on other places to look and what to ask for?
Thanks.

As I mentioned in the other thread, check with an upholstery shop. Ask for high density foam. You might even want to bring the case with you so they can see what you need it for.

Call a road case company - they'll know the right stuff, and are usually pretty cool about selling you chunks as needed. Here in Chicago we have R&R Cases and also MT Cases, and probably others as well.

foamorder.com
Mentioned in a thread here long ago (about diy recoil speaker stabilizers). I have not used them, but a friend did & had good results.

any fabric store should have foam. i have always used felt on top of foam as well, and this keeps foam in tact for years without any issues. i have used it for mixing consoles with no issue with fibers whatsoever...should be fine for a keyboard.
