Try dropbox. You create a folder on your computer and it keeps a copy of whatever is in it on their server. Then your friend can have a copy of the same folder and whatever you or he/she adds will show up on both of your computers.

There is also a Public folder which is good for, say, sharing mixes with clients.

I've been using divshare, though there may be better free sites out there.

For the last 2 albums, we've used my bandmate's public iDisk folder. Simple, quick. No issues. He lives in Austin, I live in Chicago and we did about 75% of the last 2 projects entirely by sending files back and forth.

+1 the ability to have both parties read/write access to the same folder is very handy. and it's free for the first 2 gb or something. and you get more space when you invite friends.

I've been using Yousendit or DVDs when the file size starts to get ridiculous.

I've used iDisk for years. It's not free. It's $99/year with a MobileMe subscription. But, it works every time, no ads, no confusing interface, no "wait 60 seconds, then your download will begin" nonsense.

I have to 2nd (or 3rd) Dropbox. 2gb free, but you can upgrade to 50 GB ($99/yr) or 100 GB ($199/yr).

Although it doesn't require an application to use it, they do supply one that works great. Not only do you get the online storage space but it syncs across all your computers and mobile devices that you install the app onto. I use it all the time, as I can keep any documents that I want handy at any time in my dropbox folder on my main machine and it is automatically available on my phone, etc. Super handy.

I used to use yousendit.com until I had a lot of problems with them a few years back (slow uploads, server unavailable for downloads etc). I understand they have fixed the problems now but I moved to mailbigfile.com and never felt the need to go back.

I've got my own web site and ftp space that has been sufficient for most projects. I get it from www.doteasy.com and its around $7/mo I think for 2GB of disk space and 20Gb of traffic.

Alternatively I also will use Microsoft skydrive - if you have a hotmail or MSN account then you get skydrive for free. I think it is unlimited in storage but its limited to 25MB per file - usually this is not a problem if you zip your tracks. it is less convenient than zipping an entire session though.

google also has some free web sites where I think you get 1GB of ftp/web space. sites.google.com

double plus good on the FTP (not a link)
ZIP it
upload it as one big zip archive (or maybe a few if its a huge project).
send an email with an http link and I also make a one off FTP account for the recipient .Limiting their acces to only that folder.
All those other services are nice but have their limits. I should know, I used to work for one!

My iDisk Public folder, with a password I change for each new client.

The old stuff, after it is backed up, gets thrown off the iDisk.

Cheers

I use sendspace a lot but I recently bought a pogoplug, which allows you to make any usb drive a webserver. You can create a folder on the harddrive and give whoever password protected access to the folder.

http://www.pogoplug.com

they are about a $120 as I recall.

Great for music and video sharing too, you can even set them up to stream and everything is plug and play.

iDisk or Soundcloud. Usually Soundcloud.

Soundcloud is more fun and stylish, but both work.
