Would like to build my own gear...

Post by GussyLoveridge » Thu Sep 09, 2010 5:19 pm

hey everyone - i'm new to building my own gear. never built anything. i want to make a neve 1272 clone. Tell me how?

just kidding.

i am interested in starting a small project. i've done some trouble shooting work fixing guitar guts, swapping pick ups etc. Have an iron, de-soldering tools, multimeter, etc. But i don't know where to get started. Can you folks point me toward a book or something on basic theory and maybe something to help me identify components?

What do you want to build? Tube-based guitar amps are different from tube studio compressors and solid state guitar amps for that matter. Give out some details and I bet someone has a great story to tell.

There are a lot of great, basic electronic books (many available on-line) but that can be overwhelming. Sometimes it's good to start on a new branch of knowledge with only just enough information to complete a specific task. Keep it fun, spontaneous, and terrifying.

So, what are you up to?

had a few projects in mind.

A/B switch maybe? or a simple guitar pedal. maybe some homemade reverb (wasn't there an article recently in the magazine about that?)

but would eventually like to get into something a little more involved. Mid/Side decoder maybe.

then onto whatever...
