portable phantom power supply?

Post by endertak » Mon Sep 20, 2010 10:05 pm

Hi there,

I have a portable recorder that accepts an XLR mic input, and also provides phantom power to mics, but I am looking for a more long-term recording solution so that I could spend at least 8-10 hours recording in the field.

Is there a lithium-ion battery based solution (or something else like 9V etc) that people know of? Should I be looking for a mic pre in addition to a power source, or is that overkill?

Basically I just want to provide my condenser mic with a 48V boost.

I've seen a couple of options on sweetwater that are either 9V or AA based, but I wasn't under the impression that I would get much recording time out of that.

Thanks for any suggestions...
Looking for preservation of quality in the recording of course.

My ART phantom power supply runs on wall wart or battery. I've got the dual one, $65 - http://www.amazon.com/ART-Phantom-Dual- ... 525&sr=8-4 .

Yes, battery is a must.
I want to record outside, where there will not be any power.

the dual 9V looks like the way to go.
is there any reason that people know of why they would have discontinued it?
no one biting?

the pro doesn't seem like an upgrade in this way. :)

I have no idea, I was really surprised to see it was discontinued. I've never had a single issue with it, and I haven't heard any horror stories or anything. Odd.
