Project cleanup : Egon Box

So a buddy of mine bought himself an Egon Box (http://www.thoserecords.com/Egon.htm) . They sold them put together and a few were sold as kits. Well he bought a kit. There are 1 or 2 problems with it and he asked me to take a look at it. While his build is pretty solid, his wire runs leave a little to be desired and it is too crazy for me to reliably track down shorts. So I am going to put this thing together clean as hell today. Prolly take a few hours(...days?) Here's a before picture, I already took off the pot nuts etc and partially pulled the board out to look at the soldering job on the board before I thought to take a photo, but it looked like that in the box too.

Could be neater, but looks par for the course in modular synths.

Good control panel harnesses are an art unto themselves...getting everything dressed neatly, with just enough service loop to be useful, but not so much that you have to figure out how to fram an extra foot of wire into it.. People who worked as Navy and Air Force techs seem to be really good at it. I tend to go for a panel PCB & ribbon cable on my designs.

I've got a Buchla on the workbench for some TLC. I have to replace a banana jack that's in the center of the panel, under a rats nest of wires. Not looking forward to that.

good thing i wasn't enjoying a beverage cause i think i would have shot it out of my nose at a distance of 6 feet laughing as hard as i did.

Oops! Forgot to post follow up photos!

Ok so here it is done. Wasn't too much of a pain. Just a lot of snipping. I'd say I removed between 4-5 FEET of wire!!!
