Martin audio Corp NYC

Post by joel hamilton » Tue Sep 28, 2010 7:27 pm

Anyone know anything about the 3 band "pultec" style EQ's they made? The "PEQ 500A Equalizer" ???

I have a pair of them, consecutive serial numbers, and I am looking to find some documentation for them. NOBODY seems to know anything about them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

They sound great.
And look great.

it's a long shot, but martin audio was sold to video services corp. in '89. maybe there's a file cabinet in a basement somewhere?

john klett was the service manager there in the 80s, he might know something.

course, anyone who was actually involved with those EQs is probably dead or has forgotten by now.

Nope.

I opened it up and took a few more photos. I'll put them up when I get home tonight.

Ed,
I emailed him right away. He said he was "sure he did not have the docs for those EQ's...."
Nice of him to reply right away.
Finding paperwork for these things is proving interesting. luckily, as John Klett said: "if that's the model I recall it was Bruce's knockoff of Lou Lang's PEQ witch was a sort of a knockoff of Gene Shenk's Pultec which was based on Western Electric patents..."

Awesome.

Martin audio was no joke in NYC, for sure... I knew it would be quality, but I also dont know anything about these specific units at all, besides that they are cool.

There was one on Ebay a month or two ago that had an API 2520 in it.

Hadn't seen those before. They should be relatively easy to reverse engineer. Interesting to see separate cut and boost in each band. I assume bandwidth only on the high boost?
