I agree, I would be willing to talk to the years privately, and tell him of my experience if he's willing to pm his email. I have no desire to mix for him or them, being on both sides of the glass is difficult at best.

Off topic, hello from Chicago! Where you guys based out of in Chicago? What style of music is it?
I am the terrible byproduct of the erosion of Jeff's 'society'.

I'd say pick one song and send it to your friend in Michigan and a third party and compare the three and see which you like best. I've done spec mixes for artist on my own time and sometimes I get the gig, sometimes I don't, but it's always a worthwhile experience.

He drowned in our sea of commentary...

Let's throw him a lifesaving device.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the replies! I thought you guys had really good common sense ideas about choosing a mixer. The band pretty much decided to go with the Michigan without comparing his work to anyone else's (even though several people offered to make sample mixes). The sample mix I heard from Mr. Michigan I wasn't a huge fan of (that's an understatement), but the rest of the band apparently loved it, and I began to feel like I was an embattle president fighting for universal health care and just kind of gave up my crusade for a different mixer.

We are from the mostly the Logan Square area of Chicago and play a raucous style of Folk 'n' Roll ( think The Band meets Tom Waits meets Iron & Wine ).
