FTP Service Recommendations?
FTP Service Recommendations?
I'm finding it'd be useful to have a reliable FTP service available on my website for clients to upload and download audio. I've played with uploading reference mixes to my website hosting space but it's not user friendly for clients.
I'm curious if any of you have recommendations for a dedicated FTP service such as "YouSendIt" or "FilesAnywhere"?
What do you guys use?
Thanks,
Chris

You have a website,
you could host things there and use FTP directly with password protected folders for your clients.
I use a combination of MobileMe and FTP stuff via my Studio G Brooklyn Website.
We specifically chose a host for the studio website with massive bandwidth allotments for the bucks we pay them, so we can do this very thing.
Yousendit always works, drop box works, but for mixes I use MobileMe, and for multitrack stuff I tend to use the more efficient FTP (rather than webDAV) protocol and a client like Transmit.
CLients can just point any browser to the FTP folder and enter their password.

If you have webspace, Fire-ftp, which is free plugin for firefox is crazy easy to use and makes uploading/downloading as easy as clicking a button in the toolbar. You can find it here.joel hamilton wrote:You have a website, you could host things there and use FTP directly with password protected folders for your clients.....CLients can just point any browser to the FTP folder and enter their password.
Thanks for these replies! I hadn't checked back for while.
Great ideas regarding a password protected folder from my site hosting. I was wondering if this was possible.
Thanks again!

If I need ftp, then I usually use my website service for that.
Another cheap/free service that may work for you is Microsoft skydrive. Because I have a hotmail account I get 25GB (Gigabytes) of free space on skydrive. Skydrive is limited to 25MB files, so if you are sending/receiving big audio files or a whole session you sometimes have to break them up. There are utilities that can zip up files and break them into pieces (under 25MB) to make it easier.
Google also has free website space (about 1Gb I think) that you can use to transfer files if necessary.
