I've got a Stylophone and Monotron. I've used the Stylophone in a number of songs, and I'm sure I'll be using the Monotron a lot too. If I didn't have them both I would LOVE to get one as a stocking stuffer. Ebow too, though I don't have one of those!

Awesome thread! I've been looking for a simple synth or drum machine to get my brother for x-mas. These are perfect. Thanks!

Ukes!

Lanakais are pretty good at this price range:

Quick lesson:
Chords are similar to the first four strings on a guitar, capoed up 5 or 7 frets (i.e. an open "D" chord shape on guitar becomes a "G" or "A" on a uke). 4th string is up an octave (re-entrant tuning).

Weller WES-51 or Hakko 936 soldering iron, if you don't have one already. It's about time you learned to make your own cables, pedals, preamp kits, etc...

A pair of headband magnifiers. The magnifying glasses you wear on your head. These things will make your life much easier in many situations, including working on PCBs, wiring up patchbays, making cables, anything.

Extra pairs of decent but relatively inexpensive headphones. These always come in handy.

Nice Stedman pop filter

A nice, thinnish calfskin head for the beater side of your snare drum (or bass drum, if you could sneak in under a bill, which is unlikely). Once you go calf, you never go back, as long as your drum set stays in one place most of the time.

Guitar cables (anything but monster)
guitar/bass strings
picks
tuners, you can never have too many!
Pitch pipe.
guitar straps

guitar stands
Its kinda tough asking friends or relatives for music things, but it is also so lame when they send you "Mel Bays how to play funk bass". Especially when you have been playing for over 25 years. amazon wish lists are EXCELLENT for this.
