Mid-Side examples?
I've been hearing bits and pieces about Mid-Side techniques here and there for years. The DrMS review in the last issue really piqued my interest.
Are there any well known examples of the technique around that I should check out?

Your best bet it to test it out on your own and see what works in a particular context. It's useful to know.

Wow. Just ... wow that UM vocal ensemble link is mind-blowingly great.
Also there is no doubt I'm gonna try out mid-side on the drums at the next jam session with my band. I'm always wrestling with phase problems on the drums mics, this seems like a fantastic way to squash that problem and still get stereo drums.
thanks for the links, fellas!

m/s is awesome on drums, i've messed with it mainly as a front of kit setup, but you could also throw it overhead, hopefully you have a good room to try it in.
one thing that i like to point out on mid side threads, is that although the mid mic is most often a cardioid, you can use any pickup pattern in that position and get different sounds.
one of my favorite things to do is to close mic acoustic guitars with an omni condenser mic in the mid position and a ribbon for the side. it almost sounds like you are inside the guitar.
i really love m/s... probably too much.
these are just some demos but here are some things i've done in the last year or so with m/s to give you some more examples:
drums (two bi directional ribbons front of kit, the only mics on the drums in this mix):

both of these have the close-up omni mid setup i was talking about:

have fun!

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Here's a link to a song that I recorded and mixed. About a minute and a half in what sounds like hand claps come in (it's actually the drummer "playing" his legs) I put up a pair of 414's in M/S just for the eff of it. It's a really wide stereo image, nearly out of phase (intentionally). Give it a listen if you want.

recorded just acoustic guitar and vocals using Mid-Side a couple months ago, i've found it can really help to give an up close and personal sound to singer-songwriter acoustic stuff, and can also make an acoustic guitar sound huge.
the recording is here
the song is a cover of a Nick Drake tune.
