Looking for something to add some dirt to vocals

Post by stupid_life » Sat Dec 18, 2010 10:01 am

That's right... I record a lot of hardcore punk bands and I'm looking for something to add some extra gravel to male vocals. Probably a compressor or limiter I'm thinking?

Since this is the only function I'm really looking for it to serve I don't want to spend a whole lot of money, can anyone recommend me something that would serve this function well? New or used equipment, old or new....

Sansamp or big muff pedals can do this nicely & fairly cheaply.
I sometimes have one running parallel to the original track through this reamp box to bring the level up & alter tone.
Or use the reamp to send to an guitar amp etc.
Or have an aux send going to the pedal chain for multiple vocals or instruments.
I've got the bass driver version of the Sansamp.

I'd search eBay for something like an ART Dual MP. It's an affordable dual tube preamp, which also has a line input for each channel so you can crunch vocals (or whatever) on the way in, or after you've recorded them.

Hi,

I'd look at your own other thread :

Since you say "low budget" maybe getting/building a reamp is the ticket. Then you can try all the different amps the band brings in and/or that you have and pedals, etc. until you find the "dirt" you dig.

When he made the thread I think there was a double post, because the threads were created at almost exactly the same time. It looks like no one caught it and some people replied to one and some replied to the other.

Also Logical
As it was in the begining, so shall it be in the end...
