value notebook + s/pdif input for mixdown?

Post by sears » Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:34 pm

Can someone recommend a good value for a notebook and a compatible S/PDIF interface that I can use for mixing down from my obsolete all-in-one multitrack, that I won't even name for fear someone says, "just replace it with the computer!" (The answer is, after adding an interface and control surface to make it usable, it will be beyond my budget.)

If you're on a budget, does it HAVE to be a new computer? Why not the one you're reading this message on?

There's also the point that you know you have an obsolete system. Money spent on propping it up is wasted money. Perhaps you just HAVE to find some more cash from somewhere. Is eating really necessary? :-)
