Phantom Power Woes

Post by thegeek » Mon Feb 21, 2011 12:00 pm

While the reason I need one is a much longer discussion but the phantom power on my Soundtracs MRX Board isn't working correctly (when I turn it on it my meter bridge shorts out or something... never have taken the time to try and fix it) - here's a video: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1392543698002

So my question is two parts - 1) any ideas on how to fix it? Since I route into a DAW I can readily go without the meter bridge... anyone know if I could just disconnect it?

2) in the meantime I need a good external phantom power supply... is one better than another? I'd rather not have something that colors my sound or anything at all.

Maybe not what you were looking for, but

Sounds like a good time to buy an external preamp!

If you are doing rock, I'd check out the Aphex 107. Handy little preamp to have around, and it's a better investment than a phantom power supply.
