Euphonix Mc problems?? Anyone else having or had probs??

Post by Sticksilverone » Mon May 02, 2011 2:32 pm

Hey all

I have had a bunch of replacement McControl and McMix units as the LCD touch screens have all gone bad and recently the faders on the McMix units are not targeting correctly or are outright making terrible grinding noises....

This is not a DAW issue. Problems are with physical units and or firmware

Thanks DDD

This sounds like a nightmare. How many replacement units have you had? I had an Mc Transport take a dump on me and Euphonix swapped it out for me. They never said what the problem was but I've been good to go since. Has Euphonix been replacing the units or was it done through a dealer?

Hi DDD,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. I owned the V1 MCControl, and now own a V2 version. I also have two of the MIX fader units.
I use them every single day, without issues. For over 2 years daily use.

My setup is as follows:
Mac computer, 2.x 2.8GHz Quad Core Intel chipset, running Mac Os 10.6.5
Mac Ethernet controller version 2.1.1b7
Ethernet Switch (NOT a Router!!!) is a white NetGear, 8 port 10/100 BIT.
Ethernet protocol for all the machines is DHCP (Dynamic Hosting)
Pro Tools HD 9.0.2 with one 192io and one sync HD.
EuCon software version 2.5.7.73518
MIX fader units firmware version 1.4.4
Control unit firmware version 1.2.6

What are your settings for your setup? please post your exact same settings as mine, but for your machines. It's impossible to determine what your issues are without this information.
Have you gone through Customer Support?
What have they told you is the issue?
What version of MC Control were these? V1 or V2?
How many times did you replace the screens?
Who replaced the screens, the dealer, or Euphonix directly?
The faders, are they ALL making this "grinding noise" or just one/ a few?
Are you keeping your units clean, and cleaning them regularly?
Are these units being used by many people, or just yourself?
Is there a lot of dust in your control room / recording space?

Cheers
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

AVIDEuphonix Mc problems?? Anyone else having or had probs??

Post by Sticksilverone » Wed May 11, 2011 3:43 pm

I have actually been dealing with people directly at AVID.

They have told me they have had manufacturing problems and continue to have them.

I have had three replacement Mc Control units.

If anyone wants to know the details of this please email me privately.

It is extremely frustrating and just confirms my thoughts of AVID and how they are the "Microsoft or Standard Oil of Audio Production in 2011"

For all my problems AVID gave me two McMix units that have fader issues and a VI software package that will expire in six months.....

The Gift of Time Bombed Software was akin to a slap in the face from AVID.

If enough people are having issues I will post my story here. I am sure a few manufacturers that are in competition with AVID would love to hear the story.

Ive been trying to get them to replace these now for months.

Quite sure it wont happen. I may take them apart and see what the problems are.

This sucks as I am a pro audio engineer, producer, mixing guy, composer of commercials and a Analog - Digital Component Level Tech that actually has to carry a debt load just to work in this field. Dropping that kind of money on a piece of gear that is going to die within a few months or doesn't work from the get go is something that Engineers like myself cannot afford. I cant have any "downtime" if I want to keep a roof over my head.

I have also offered them my skills as a component level tech (since 1983) and beta tester many times since this began. They say its a great idea but it never goes any further than talk.......

I have been dealing with this for over a year now.

I wish to God that someone else would make something similar to the McMix units I would buy them in a heartbeat.

DDD
