Array of 500 modules/pres/eqs or a 1608

If you guys had a choice of two racks of twenty 500 series modules- think pairs of brands- would you rather have that or a simple 1608 API sidecar?

Neither seems objectionable to me but given a choice the 500 series racks would be interesting.

If you guys had a choice between a dozen Italian sports cars, or a tank and a fighter jet, which would you choose?

italian tanker jet

if I had the money all at once? No brainer, the desk. You can't buy the desk piece by piece over the next ten years. But I hate working without a console.

the 500 series. more color and tonal variation. the api mid forward sound is akin to rock, i don't record rock. i feel the more variety, the better you'd be able to cover all the bases.

The more I record stuff, the less I want "options" and "different flavors".

Give me 16 channels of Daking or API pre/EQ and maybe 2 TAB V78s and I'll be a happy man.

Just wondering, and I promise this is a genuine question and not a dig, but have you spent a lot of time working on API boards? That sounds a bit to me like messageboard rehash. I would pick an API desk to record jazz over no desk any day of the week. Maybe I'd skip the board for location classical work.
