clocking (002 & apogee) question

Post by gregovertone » Mon May 30, 2011 6:28 am

i picked up a first gen rosetta on craigslist yesterday. $150.
i'm rocking a BLA digi002r with a digimax FS.
i currently clock to the digimax.
when i clock internally, i get the dreaded clicks and pops.

my concern is connecting the rosetta to the 002 via spdif will have some clocking issues.

the rosetta has a bnc out.
could i chain it

rosetta bnc out
digimax fs bnc in
clock externally?

is this the point in which people buy external clocks?

thoughts?

I think you'll have to clock to the Rosetta. Set PTLE to clock to the s/pdif input; and then clock the Digimax to the bnc input from the Rosetta. Not sure how else you could do it unless your modded 002R has a bnc connection now.

interesting!

i guess, first and foremost, my thinking was that there had to be a single clock source.

as in output.

i didn't know that you could utilize both bnc and spidf simultaneously.
good to know.

BLA modded the clock in the 002, but didn't add a bnc output. sad oversight on digidesign's part.

oh well :)

thanks for the reply.

Yep, at the end of the day you need a single clock source for all three. I know the 002R clocks to an external source via the s/pdif or optical input.
