My vote is for the AT 4033. I don't use it as much for vocals as I do on amplifiers, but it is versatile.
The KSM 44 would be my multipattern choice, but I think it is more like $500-600 right?

It really is a mic that deserves much much more respect, it does not do deep deep lows, it does not have hyped tops but everything in between is honest and true !

One of my all time fave mics, you literally could mic everything with them.

made in USA, great on kick drums and female vocals. multiple patterns. pretty good on everything else. GIGANTIC. and you can run it without phantom for a while, its powered by phantom charged batteries.

I've been a big fan of the CAD M179 as an all-around LDC solution. Depending on where they're on sale, they usually run between $150 and $180.

I prefer it over the Studio Projects B-series in a lot of cases (though my B1 and B3 have been used a lot over the last 18 months) because the Bs don't capture lows well. The M179 will get them for you, leaving you the option to carve them out.

Also, the M179 lets you use a filter AND a pad if you need them, where the B3 only lets you use one or the other.

If you haul your gear around a lot, the M179 can be a double-edged sword; the foam-lined case is beefy, but it does take up a lot of room.

Depends on what the definition of LDC is. It's a 20 mm capsule. Heck, for under 50 bucks you can find out if it's large enough.
