drum room walls were about 2 days... not too hard, just had to get a good system together and have the right tools. after 6 months of carpentry, our chops are pretty together!

the studio is fully functional in the a room... just doing finish work now. and it sounds absolutely amazing. the drum sound in that room rivals any room i've heard, period. the live room sounds great, but is still a bit dead until we get the wood slats up.

probably gonna have a holiday party. we'll post here, and definitely spike the eggnog.

I really like the videos, they give you a good sense of what the space looks like. Looks incredible. I have one question.

It looks like the wall were framed and then you put up OSB particle board instead of sheetrock. Then you framed out spaces to put Owens Corning 703 for acoustic treatment. Is that correct? If so why did you go with OSB and not sheetrock, was it so you had something to screw into for the framing that you put the 703 in?
Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.

1/2" OSB plywood was the first layer, then two layers of 5/8" sheetrock... the OSB was to ensure plenty of solid points to screw the 2x2 furring in for the OC703. also, with a number of barrel roll ceilings, it's crucial to be able to put a LOT of screws into a piece of 5/8" sheet rock when you're forcing it to twist around a roll... the seams won't line up on rafters, so you have to have the sheathing there.

twisting 5/8" sheetrock while kneeling on scaffolds at 17' sucks. oh so much.

I'm looking at al that 703 and I'm wondering why you wouldn't want to use 4'x8' panels instead. I don't know if they supply it in crooklyn.

puts the furring too far apart to anchor the slats well... with a slat at a 45 degree angle, with a 4x8 sheet you'd have almost 6' of slat that aren't nailed anywhere.

Looking Great!

So let me ask a dumb question. So you're basically building "inside out" walls but then attaching a slotted slat face to them so it's not a completely "dead" room??

Is this happening in every room or just the one with the drums pictured?

damn.. now thats mass. So the screws for the furring strips were what, 3.75-4 inches long?

Yeah, some long ass screws. Not quite an inside out wall, but I guess the concept would be similar.

All the rooms will get slats.

You might hear that pipe in the ceiling.

I've had problems from pipes in other studios, reflection problems, not sound coming out of it but bouncing off of it.

It's THE most bizarre thing ever, sometimes a little foam will cure it, or a v shaped board directly under it.
Great lookin room!

like if you're standing right underneath it? i've encountered that with the I-beams here. it is weird indeed. some 703 fixed it.

that room looks amazing!
