Tascam 388 Problems

Post by caseydentinger » Fri Jul 08, 2011 9:23 pm

I just picked up one of these and for a few minutes everything was great but then it started acting strangely. When I press rewind the light will turn on but either the tape will not move or it will move very slowly. When it is not moving but the light is on I can touch the feed reel and feel a vibration like the motor is turning but the teeth aren't catching? Sometimes I hit rewind and it just clicks back off immediately. Play and FF work great.

I am totally new to this but I assume there are separate motors for the separate spindles? Could the left one be dying?

This is my first serious venture into analog and I am very much willing to put some work into it if I have to. Any help would be wonderful...
