Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked here before.
Is it possible to get a physical mixer (USB or Firewire) to talk to Audacity?
Or was Audacity never designed to do this?
Usually, I just use Audacity for live stereo work and mixing down isn't a big deal. But now I have some multiple tracks built up, and the idea of doing all this with a mouse is just too much work. I'd like to be able to mix down live in real time using faders to control the gain on tracks.
Or is this only possible with full blown DAWs like ProTools?
Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Apparently Audacity doesn't support midi control so it looks like you're out of luck. I'd recommend giving Reaper a try; free to try and cheap to buy and supports control surfaces.

Dear Kinger,
Thanks for the info... and for the bonus answer. You intuited my question behind the question, which was, is there a small-footprint, low cost DAW out there that will run on somewhat older hardware and not break the bank? I'll be checking out Reaper shortly.
Thanks again,
John

No worries; if I hadn't suggested it I'm sure someone else would've. Cockos is an amazing company and Reaper easily competes with the big boys for a fraction of the cost. Their user forum is also very friendly and helpful (much like here). Good luck!
