Larger-cup cans for larger-sized people?

Post by marc » Thu Jul 21, 2011 10:08 am

Hey, not weight-wise. Watch it.

I love my Sony 7506s for just about everything, but if I have them on for an extended period of time, I get external ear fatigue. I'm 6'2" with appropriately-sized ears, which means it's unavoidable that part of my ears get pressed against my head, which is fine for awhile, but wears on you after a few hours. I'm looking to pick up another set of headphones that would optimally be comparable, both in price and response/quality (or, hey, better in this regard, if possible) to the 7506s, but thought I'd see if anyone else encountered anything similar, and had any solutions, such as other models with larger cups, etc.

I don't have them in front of me, but after about a decade of using the 7506s, my current love is the ATH-M50. They definitely seem more comfortable and I think are a little larger cups. I also think they are marginally better sound wise than the 7506s.

Look at some of the headphones made by beyerdynamic. They typically have larger earcups.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 535s that have fairly generous ear cups. I am 6'3" and have pretty big ears and these are not bad at all. Good sounding cans too, plenty good enough for tracking.

That I paid $1 for them at Goodwill and $17 for a new cord from Sennheiser doesn't hurt either. :D

i have a couple of radar discs on the side of my head, as well as a big melon to begin with, and am about 6'3". I have LOVED my beyerdynamic headphones. They're like pillows. I originally got the DT770s, loved 'em, then upped my game with the DT880s. Highly recommended for long days with headphones on.

I'm also a big (-eared) fan of the 770s. I wouldn't be without those as well as the AKG 240s.
