Considering a Soundtracs topaz, help with version etc..

Post by Krackle » Sun Jul 24, 2011 2:58 pm

I came across this Soundtracs Topaz..bit of a drive to get it but I want to get some insight as to which version of the Topaz this is and whether or not it's worth it etc..The guy wants $800 for it..seems a couple hundred high but hoping for pricing opinion.

Generally..is this a really old one and is anyone using this particular incarnation of the Topaz or know anything about it?

Should I wait for an 8 buss project?

Anything..thanks

Sposed to be in good condtion, fully functioning and sounding etc.

yeah.. you can find a project 8 going between $600 and $900 often. I think I paid 1,000 for my project 8, and still consider that a great deal.

Now there's an MRX 24 channel in my area..supposedly in great shape.

Any thoughts/experience on these vs. the Topaz line?

From what I've read online, the MRX was the best series of consoles Soundtracs ever made. The Topaz is sort of like a Ghost, and MRX is sort of like Soundcraft 6000 or Sapphyre. I think it was marketed more for "professional" like those Soundcraft desk and not pro-sumers.
Still waiting for a Luna reunion
