bypass Firepod with outboard mic-pre/AD combo-how to set up?

Post by subbots » Fri Aug 12, 2011 2:00 pm

Is it possible to bypass the Firepod's preamps and A/D converter by using something like the UA 4-710d?
The firepod has one S/PDIF I/O. But on the UA 4-710d, the output choices are:
4-XLRs
one WC I/O
two ADAT out
one AES/EBU (DB-25)

Which one do I use to connect to the Firepod? And how? Would I be able to assign the VST inputs in my DAW software?

I'm using 3 mics on drums, 1 mic on vocal and 2 line-in for synth.

Thanks!

ADAT lightpipe from the UA to ADAT lightpipe in to the Firepod. and you need to connect the WC on both units and choose which signal to clock off of.

this would show up as ADAT channels 9-16 on the presonus control console. this is all by memory. mine was stolen a bit ago but im remember it pretty well.

IIRC, Original Firepod and FP10 has SPDIF I/O on rca's, no ADAT optical I/O, no separate word clock.

For bypass you must either use a preamp that has its own converters and use S/PDIF in to the Firepod...

OR, in the analog realm you need to get an insert cable and only use the "back to the insert" 1/2 of the cable and leave the other 1/2 unplugged.

Plugging in to the "line in" uses the preamps.
