Decent multimeter for doing tape machine setup?

Post by pointillist » Sun Oct 16, 2011 7:03 pm

Need some advice here. I'm trying to get more consistent about servicing my TSR-8 myself, and started to set the machine up for ATR tape today. Went to do the bias by the manual, but my multimeter doesn't read above 400hz (it's an older lower end radio shack model, I know, but it's been a work horse!). I'd like to upgrade, but am not sure what brands to look for. Any recs? Hoping to stay under 100 or so.

Thanks much!
Andy

i got a used Fluke 87 III on ebay for $100. it might be more than you need for the stated job, but it's solid, easy to use, and if you ever do more intense DIY work I think it's up to the task.

Huh- the Fluke 87 III specs are quite a bit better at high kHz values. Thanks for the rec, will hunt ebay/amazon for one.
