Tascam MS-16 VS TRS 8
Tascam MS-16 VS TRS 8
I was wondering what I can expect sound wise between the 2, the TRS is in better shape, the MS-16 comes with the remote and meters W/ no dbx stuff. They are both going to cost about 500 when said and done. I just plan on using 8 tracks anyways

there is one in boston, actually got him down to 400 it had some wear and there was some unknowns, ended up picking up a pretty much mint 8516b with 6 tapes, calibration tapes, plus some other stuff. Heads were relaped recently. Now I just have to figure how I want to run everything.
The rest of my set up is saffire pro 40, digimax fs, la 610 in to Pro Tools, 2 bus lt and monitor st on the other end.
What I want to do is this
track to tape using the pres in my interfaces
dump into Pro Tools
then mix out to my 2 bus back into pt
My issue is this, I don't want to use a patch bay but it looks like I am going to have to. I wish I could just use a splitter AFTER the outputs between the 2bus and tape machine.
what would you suggest?

I had both. Both are fine choices. I think 1/2" tape is a little easier to find and cheaper. The TRS was unbalanced connectors and the MS-16 was balanced IIRC.
One thing to consider is the audio cards in the MS-16 are modular so if one goes down you will only be down 1 track. Also from time to time the cards on the MS-16 would go intermittent and I would pull them and clean the sockets and voila it would work. They were easy to pull too.
I guess a lot of it comes down to the condition of the machines.
