Need a stereo receiver/phono pre/amplifier

Post by GussyLoveridge » Mon Jan 16, 2012 12:13 pm

Hey All - I'm looking to purchase a new or used amp for my turntable. Ideally it would have a healthy amount of power the ability to send to two or more sets of speaks, have phono, tape, tuner and aux ins.

I've been through so many older amps of the past 10 years and I'm looking to purchase something that will hold up and sound great.

Any ideas? I guess I could look for speakers too. I'll take suggestions for those as well. Not looking to spend an insane amount of money.

$200-400 on amp and speakers if possible.

I do see used NAD gear for reasonable prices on craigslist and ebay. Just make sure it has a phono preamp. Polk Audio speakers seem to be abundant and relatively cheap. The ported ones sound better.

On the used tip I'm super fond of the older Sansui stuff. I have an AU-505 (much love for the mono switch on it) and for power and major flexibility the AU-D11.

Try and find an NAD from the 70's. Those things sound amazing and are built like tanks! I found my NAD 3080 for $40 at a garage sale! Sansui's from the 70's are also pretty amazing as noted above!
