I've always wanted to try wiring one pickup to a tiny built-in speaker (powered by a 9V Ruby amp) placed behind the bridge. In my mind, it would keep the guitar vibrating right at the edge of feedback all the time. In practice, it might just feedback horribly all the time.

That's like a DIY version of the Fernandes Sustainer system. Either way it works out, it could be fun...

You could build a fuzz into it and maybe a really touch sensitive kill switch.

Maybe don't spend another dime and just keep it in DADGAD or some other open tuning. You could set it up for slide, too.

Actually nothing at all like the Fernandez system. Use the Ruby circuit to drive an 8 Ohm, 3mm deep coil of 32 gauge wire wrapped and potted around an the bobbin of a Single Coil pickup and stick it in place of the neck pickup. That will work like the sustain part of the Fernandez thing, and probably far better than the speaker. Course, he said he wanted it "at the edge of feedback" as opposed to "feeding back like the Edge".

Hi,

As a proud owner of three Strats, I would suggest you only buy upgraded pickups.
I love the Lace Sensors, but also the Lindy Fralins.
My new favorites on my newest Strat?
Surh ML (Mike Landau) pickups. Damn awesome. Passive.

Cheers

+1

Another tuning that's fun to have around is Orkney - CGDGCD
