Recommend a gate?

I know it is a bit of a utilitarian piece but I'm wondering if you all have some favorite gates. Side chain would be a plus.

I took Jim Williams' advice and bought an Aphex 612.

my gate-buyin' days are over! never encountered a single instance where it didn't get the job done. it demands some fine-tuning for each particular application but you won't be disappointed.

The Drawmer gates are pretty standard - plenty of flexibility in controls and precision in sound.

on a completely different tip, I've always really like the Valley People gates - either the standalone ones or the ones in the Dynamite. When you want something raucous, sloppy, and nasty (in a really awesome way) that you can just drive into oblivion, I don't know of a better option.

+1 on the Aphex 612. The pots don't get as scratchy, and the "sweet spot" seems a little wider than the drawmers. The filter section rules, and they seem to be very affordable these days. I love the Valley people Gatex and dynamite, but for surgical filtering,or keying / triggering, you cant go wrong with the Aphex. Cheers!

I bought another one for $75. Not bad since they sold new for over $1k.

I wrote a review of the Aphex 612 in TapeOp almost ten years ago. I love 'em. Sold four channels of Drawmers, bought six channels of those things, made a bunch of money on the deal and have better-sounding, more sensitive gates.

Chris, is that review online anywhere? I'd love to check it out.
