Larry: Admiration of Your Bass Tone

Post by Snarl 12/8 » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:55 pm

Dude,

What's the secret to the bass tone on
http://www.vomitlaunch.com/multimedia/m ... remix).mp3 (Vomit Launch's Swelling Admiration (bloated swollen remix)). It's ballsy and deep at the same time, which eludes most of the time. Were you just sticking to notes which resonated with your bass rig in the room at the time?

edit: not sure why the link isn't working. I tried to fix it.

With admiration,

Well there is certainly quite a bit of room sound on that bass... pretty cool.

So much room sound indeed! I've never had much luck with roomy/reverby bass sounds, I find that they usually cause all kinds of muck problems with the low end. I'd imagine you need to hipass the shit out of them to make it work.

I don't recall room sounds on it. [Oh shit, LOTS! That's likely Greg's only reverb, an SPX-90!] It was an Arbor headless bass through a Sunn Coliseum head and a 15" speaker micd up, probably with a dynamic. Horrible bass and horrible amp. Greg might have added some reverb for that mix, but the album mix is dry.
