so I need to take the stereo outs from my Nucleus console & combine them into a mono feed so I can output it to a power amp to drive a single Auratone 5C to check my mixes in mono. I read the article on the Rane site entitled "Why Not Wye?" (
http://www.rane.com/note109.html) and I figure I should either make a box (not my strong suit) or buy something. I came across the Whirlwind Imp Combiner for $80 which looks as if it will do the job.
is there a cheaper solution, preferably not a DIY?
thanks

A couple of resistors, but if you don't want to DIY, then no, you're probably not going to find anything cheaper than $80. At least nothing that I would want to run mixes through for reference.

I see that it's a small project. where I live up here in northern NH there isn't really a place to buy parts. Radio Shack really isn't the DIY place that it used to be...

Everybody in DIY just buys from Internet suppliers - Mouser, Digi-Key, Jameco, Newark, etc.

Too true. There are exceedingly few actual stores where you can buy components these days.

If you're starting out in DIY I'd recommend Jameco - they pretty much have everything you're going to need. The other suppliers I mentioned all have 4" thick catalogs, and more available online. Serious catalog shock...."um, I got it narrowed down to 1/4 watt 10k ohm resistor, but there are still about 400 choices left!"

thanks for the replies. I may try JAMECO. as stated, it's so daunting just to get a couple of resistors , a box and some connectors.
