sorry i chime in AFTER you bought the TASCAM
i was going thru the same decision process and decided against the Tascam.
Primarily because it is still windows based and the new version did not support all VST like old one. So I thought I would be going thru the same generation crap as a PC anyway - without the benefits

and I am very happy with it the biggest change I made from a "normal" system was
1) go 64 bits which meant the OS can use the huge memory
2) go solid state state disk which both decreased boot ups and increased disk performance.

I think i finally have a push button start up and work setup with rock solid reliability - of course this is a special purpose PC - nothing but audio stuff on it.

for mixdown I would go with one of the Korg bitstream boxes. But that might punch a hole in your budget.

I've been eying that Korg 1-bit tech since it came out, but I'm not sure it fits my goals here. I'd be trying to capture a 24 bit stream and make it even more available to the world at that point. WAV's and MP3's. Going 1-bit seems like a step in the wrong direction and certainly won't get me anywhere sonically. Have you heard those? Do they sound good? Am I wrong about compatibility? All that's kindof a moot point considering the cost.

I may be wrong on this, but I believe there is a mixdown function on the mx2424 in which you can play 24 tracks and record on other virtual tracks at the same time. So you could mix down your 24 tracks through your DA7 and record back to the MX2424 through the SPDIF without needing another unit. You should check the mx2424 manual before you buy another unit for mixdown.
