recommend me a good mic
recommend me a good mic
that can cut through the mix, and not sound muffled or like i'm mumbling.
Here's my current mic setup, the best of several mic/pres I have tried:

Will the Cascade Fathead II fix this?

guitar volume is locked
the mic from the guitar speaker is preset into the console.
I can up the gain of the mic pre, but If I go much higher I get artifacts, 'ssing, etc. trying to not overprocess the recording.
What EQ would you recommend on the vocals?

Have you tried, during your "mixing"... to turn down that guitar, like, A LOT?
That would probably solve your issue.
That, and some EQ, and some compression.
Maybe...

Until you turn down that guitar, there really is no point in saying anything at all about the vocal.
You can turn down the guitar amplifier to control it's level into the console, if you cannot turn it down at the console input any more.
If that does not work, try using an inline pad between the mic and the console.
But really, that guitar HAS TO COME DOWN in level.
After that, I think you'll find your vocal is just fine.
Cheers

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.
I'm tellin' ya
The guitar won't go quieter. All the knobs are as low as they go.

What are you using for equipment?
Have you read any manuals whatsoever?
I say go buy a basic recording manual at a local GC, stat.

Re: guitar volume is locked
An 18dB cut, from 200Hz-4kHz should sweeten up the vocals a bit.ampguy wrote:

Maybe some old skool ones that aren't so loud.
